Hi, and welcome to the New York Self-Determination Coalition (NYSDC) Blog!

We are a group of parents, and a few professionals, who care about and support self- determined people with developmental disabilities. We are not funded or paid, and we are not sponsored by any governmental or voluntary agency.

Our only agenda? To promote self-determined lives for people with developmental disabilities.

As parents, we feel we have a unique voice, and hope to use this blog to:

• Share our families’ experiences with self-determination
• Update you on political issues that affect self-determination
• Alert you to interesting conferences and resources
• Answer your questions (or refer you to someone who can)

A few of us are participating on design teams for the People First 1115 Waiver, which will transform New York’s service system for people with developmental disabilities over the next five years. We welcome your input on this issue, as well asother topics related to self-determination.
